We're at Hyderabad for mission trip, when we're so privileged to have this wonderful man of God delivered such a life-changing sermon:
Sunday, 8 Oct 2006
Secunderabad, OM India
Preacher: Dr. Stuart Bresco
John 4:21 – 24
What Christianity is:
- God who’s seeking man
- Suffering, seeking God
What Christianity is not:
- Mankind searching for God
- Remote, far away God
What is God seeking for in men?
God’s seeking for worshippers who’ll worship in Spirit and in truth.
Question: Has He found ONE in me?
- Do I know how to worship Him in spirit and in truth?
- In what way do I need to worship?
- We need to know how to worship in order to enter into the fullness of our humanity (not to complement or affirm God)
- God is in the business of self-revelations. Human beings are created with receiving signals to:
- Discover who God is in His self-revelation
- Capacity respond to the wonder of God’s revelation
GOD --> receive --> Human
God --> respond --> Human - How does God reveal Himself?
- General revelation – creation, created order in the creation. They’re the image of the Creator
- Special revelation – Christ becomes Emmanuel (God with us); fulfillment of the Old Testament; revealer of God’s character
- Revelation of Christ in the Word (Bible)
Our worship depends on these 2 aspects (General and Special Revelation)
Worship == in love with created order, in love with Christ, revealed in the Word.
Worship:
- proskouneo: “towards”, “Pro”, “Kiss” à humble submission (e.g. coming into a King’s presence and kiss His feet). Humble submission to reveal majesty.
- German: Derimin (same word for “worship” and “service”).
Germans believe they cannot worship without humble service. Serve: Glad service to the great King - Donie – slave/servant
- working hard, working well because you work for God
- the way we behave in our workplace can be an act of worship
- gratitude of time, skills and energy (all these comes from God)
